Frequently Asked Questions
How can I save money on your services?
Beta readers are a great resource to spot things like confusing wording, plot holes, or character inconsistencies before you send your project to an editor. Another way to elevate your manuscript or paper before professional editing is to at least do one round of self-editing. I recommend reading your writing out loud, which can help you catch typos and awkward phrasing. Also, look at TMP’s social media to see if any promotions or discounts are going on.
What will the editing collaboration process look like?
Something to remember is that each project is unique, so there might be occasional variations to the schedule. Generally, this is the basic process:
- A start date and fee are agreed upon, and a contract is sent to you.
- Once the contract is signed and returned, I will begin working on your project.
- After each round, I will send you a track changes document with my notes for you to review and accept or decline. If you need clarification on a comment, we can chat via email, phone, Facebook Messenger or video call.
- Edits are completed, and the project is sent back to you by the deadline.
- We will meet one more time to go over any questions or clarifications you need.
- Our collaboration is complete.
- You celebrate with chocolate, wine, or your favorite way to spoil yourself!
I’m nervous about my writing being judged. What should I do?
That is completely understandable. Take a deep breath and know that an editor doesn’t sit and judge your writing while reading through your project. Writing is tough, so having something that needs editing is an amazing achievement! Our job is to preserve your author voice and polish your writing until it shines.
Can I reschedule my deadline if I need to?
This will depend on my calendar, but you are welcome to reschedule your deadline as far as 3-4 months out. Keep in mind that dates are set on a first-come, first-served basis.
Why should I hire an editor?
I’m glad you asked! Here are just a few reasons. It’s always a good idea to have multiple pairs of eyes look at a writing project before it’s sent off into the world. Many professional editors have the education or experience to help you amplify the strengths of your writing. Having an editor go through your project can also save you the hassle of fixing typos that readers point out to you after publication.
